Lawrence Vale delivers Gordon Cherry Memorial Lecture at the International Planning History Society (IPHS) conference.

On July 5, 2022, Lawrence Vale presented the biannual Gordon Cherry Memorial Lecture, “The Design-Politics of Planning Equitably Resilient Capital Cities,” at the IPHS conference. The conference was held in hybrid form in the Netherlands at the Technical University of Delft. The talk updated Vale’s earlier work on designed capital cities (in Architecture , Power, and National Identity) to include recent and ongoing projects around the world, while challenging city designers to find ways to make such new capitals more equitably resilient.

The full text of the talk was adapted for publication in Planning Perspectives, and is available as an eprint at this link: https://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/SCA9CJJMM3YGDQ8B2SG4/full?target=10.1080/02665433.2022.2132347
